Patent Strategy &
Transactions.

Strategic counsel for the business decisions that surround a patent, including portfolio strategy, licensing, assignments, and commercialization, coordinated with associated patent counsel for filing and prosecution. We support clients across the globe.

Patents Are a Business Asset First.

A patent is only as valuable as the strategy behind it. Roberts Legal Group advises innovators and companies on the decisions that determine what a patent is actually worth: how it's structured, who owns it, and how it gets put to work.

01

Patent Strategy & Portfolio Counseling

We help you build a patent portfolio that reflects your business goals: what to protect, in what order, and how it supports where the company is headed.

02

Patent Transactions & Licensing

We structure and negotiate licensing agreements that put your patents to work, whether you're licensing technology in or licensing your own IP out.

03

Assignments & Ownership

We document and clarify patent ownership, essential in founder transitions, employee and contractor agreements, joint development deals, and M&A.

04

Commercialization

We turn granted patents into revenue by structuring partnerships, royalty terms, and go-to-market agreements around your protected technology.

05

Patent Prosecution (Coordinated)

For the formal filing and examination process before the USPTO, we coordinate with associated registered patent counsel, while RLG leads on the strategy and business terms around your patents.

Built for Innovators With Something Worth Protecting

01

Energy, Oil & Gas Innovators

Process improvements, equipment design, and proprietary methods carry real patent value, and real transactional complexity when they change hands.

02

Hardware & Product Companies

From first prototype to manufacturing partner, we help product companies structure the agreements that protect the IP behind what they build.

03

Manufacturing & Industrial Technology

Proprietary processes and equipment are often a company's most valuable, and least protected, asset. We help close that gap.

04

Startups & Growth-Stage Companies

Patent strategy should scale with the business, not outpace it. We help founders make deliberate, well-timed IP decisions as they grow.

05

Licensing & Portfolio Holders

For companies sitting on patents that aren't yet generating revenue, we help structure the deals that put them to work.

06

Global & Cross-Border Innovators

We support clients across the globe, coordinating with local and registered counsel to structure patent transactions across jurisdictions.

Patent Law FAQs

Does Roberts Legal Group file and prosecute patents?
RLG advises on patent strategy, transactions, licensing, assignments, and commercialization. For the formal filing and examination process before the USPTO, we coordinate with associated, registered patent counsel.
What's the difference between patent strategy and patent prosecution?
Prosecution is the technical process of filing and defending a patent application with the USPTO. Strategy is the business layer around it: deciding what to protect, how to structure ownership, and how a patent creates value once it's granted. That's where RLG leads.
Can RLG help me license or sell a patent I already hold?
Yes. We structure and negotiate licensing, assignment, and commercialization agreements for patents you already own, including royalty structures and usage terms.
Do I need a granted patent before I can license or commercialize my technology?
Not always. Some agreements are structured around pending applications or proprietary know-how. We'll advise on the right approach based on where your patent stands.
Does RLG work with clients outside Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York?
Yes. Our patent strategy and transactional work supports clients across the United States and around the globe, coordinated with local or registered counsel where required.
