Copyright &
Creative IP.

Protecting original works for creators, artists, authors, and content developers — from registration through licensing and enforcement.

Your Creative Work Deserves Legal Protection.

Copyright protects original works of authorship — from written content and music to visual art, software code, and course material. Roberts Legal Group helps creators, artists, and content businesses understand, register, and enforce their copyright rights.

01

Copyright Registration

While copyright exists automatically at the moment of creation, federal registration is required to file an infringement lawsuit and to claim statutory damages and attorney's fees. We handle registration efficiently so you're fully protected.

02

Copyright Licensing & Agreements

Whether you're licensing your work to others or licensing someone else's work for your own use, we draft and review agreements that clearly define the scope, duration, and compensation for use of copyrighted material.

03

Work-for-Hire & Assignment

We clarify ownership when content is created by employees, contractors, or collaborators — and draft the appropriate agreements to ensure you own what you paid for.

04

DMCA Takedowns & Enforcement

If your work is being used without permission, we pursue takedown notices and enforcement actions quickly and strategically — protecting your revenue and reputation.

Built for Creators at Every Level

01

Content Creators & Influencers

Your videos, photos, and written content are protected by copyright from the moment of creation. We help you register and enforce those rights against unauthorized use.

02

Musicians & Producers

Copyright in music is complex — covering both the composition and the sound recording. We help artists understand their rights and protect both layers of their work.

03

Authors & Publishers

From self-published authors to publishing companies, we handle copyright registration, licensing, and protection for written works at every stage.

04

Visual Artists & Designers

Photography, illustration, graphic design — your original visual work carries significant copyright value. We help you monetize and protect it.

05

Software Developers

Source code and software are copyrightable. We advise developers and tech companies on registration, open source licensing strategy, and enforcement.

06

Course Creators & Educators

Online courses, curricula, and educational materials are protectable assets. We help you secure and license your educational IP.

Copyright FAQs

If I created it, don't I automatically own the copyright?
Generally yes — copyright arises automatically at creation. However, there are important exceptions, particularly for works created within the scope of employment or under certain work-for-hire agreements. We help you confirm and document ownership.
Why register my copyright if it already exists?
Registration is required to sue for infringement in federal court. If registered before infringement (or within three months of publication), you're also eligible for statutory damages up to $150,000 per work and attorney's fees — powerful leverage in any dispute.
What is fair use?
Fair use is a legal doctrine allowing limited use of copyrighted material without permission under certain circumstances — commentary, criticism, education, news reporting, and parody being common examples. Whether something qualifies as fair use depends on multiple factors analyzed case by case.
Someone is using my content without permission. What can I do?
Depending on the circumstances, we may send a DMCA takedown notice to the platform hosting the content, issue a cease and desist letter directly to the infringer, or pursue litigation. We recommend the most strategic course of action based on your specific situation and goals.
